The Zal Mahmud Pasha Mosque is located near the Eyüp Sultan Mosque in the Eyüp district. The Zal Mahmud Pasha complex is composed of a mosque, a madrasa, a fountain and the tombs of the builders of the complex. Zal Mahmud Pasha, the vizier of Suleiman the Magnificent and his wife had the mosque built by Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan.
History of Zal Mahmud Pasha Mosque
The exact construction date is unkown but it is considered in 1570s. The Zal Mahmud Pasha complex also includes the tomb of Zal Mahmud Pasha and his wife Esma Sultan. it were damaged in a earthquake in 1766. And then it was restored during period of Sultan Mahmut II.
